What to bring

 in Spring, Summer and Fall

  • Hiking boots are essential for the hiking program.  They should be high top with a textured sole.
  • Comfortable hiking/walking clothes.  Be sure to pack for both cool and warm weather.
  • Light or mid weight hiking socks.   With experience, we have found that the right socks are as important as the right shoes to avoid blisters.  Cotton socks are not recommended for hiking.
  • Athletic shoes are essential for the fitness program.  Generally those designed for walking or cross training are recommended.
  • Active wear for our fitness classes.  Please, consider comfort  first.  We promote a down to earth casual atmosphere.
  • A sweatshirt, sweater, or jacket will be a welcome addition as we enjoy cool temperatures and breezes during our early mornings and evenings even in the midst of summer.
  • Swimsuit  for our aqua aerobics classes or for relaxing by our pool.   If you have any issues with chlorine, you might also want to consider swim goggles.
  • Dress is casual throughout the resort and in the vast majority of our local attractions.
  • Golf gear if you plan to take advantage of the 18 hole championship course at the Bristol Harbour Resort.
  • Sunscreen...of course and
  • Light rain gear….just in case .  Our hikes are on rain or shine (unless it is a thunderstorm, of course).  Your body is drip-dry and you won't melt in the rain.  Most of us had concerned mothers who wouldn't let us step outside without being swathed in all manner of rain gear, and thought we would surely die if we got wet.  You won't.  So, a light rain jacket or poncho is sufficient.

 in Winter

  • Waterproof boots are essential for the snowshoeing program and just for getting around in winter.  They should be high top with a textured sole.
  • Insulating Layers.   Wearing insulating layers is very important. Your first layer should be made out a synthetic material, not cotton. A synthetic material wicks away moisture and keeps you a lot more comfortable. Your mid-layer can be a sweater or fleece.
  • Waterproof Jacket. You'll want to wear a waterproof jacket that you can move in. If you already own a downhill skiing jacket, it will be fine for cross country skiing or snowshoeing.
Waterproof  Skiing Pants. Cross country ski pants are a great choice.  But, not required.  They have a slimmer fit than downhill pants and are designed to allow easier movement when cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
  • Warm socks.   With experience, we have found that the right socks are as important as the right boots for keeping your feet warm and blister free.  Cotton socks are not recommended.
  • A warm hat.  A helmet isn't necessary for cross country skiing or snowshoeing, so have fun with hats
  • Sports sunglasses.  A good pair of sport sunglasses will protect your eyes from harmful UV rays and enhance your vision, as well when in the snow.
  • As for Gloves, you may find that bulky gloves simply get in the way, so look for a sleekly insulated pair of gloves. Many people hesitate to spend money on gloves, but, a good quality pair of gloves will prevent cold hands - and cold hands can make anyone miserable.
  • Sunscreen and lip protector.  The earth is closer to the sun in December through February, protect your skin. Lips and face can chap without protection.
  • Athletic shoes are essential for the fitness program.  Generally those designed for walking or cross training are recommended.
  • Active wear for our fitness classes is a must.  Please, consider comfort first.  We promote a down-to-earth casual atmosphere.
